PLEADING STUPIDITY
Eve Pleading Stupidity is a now comedy from the team behind Redacted Arachnid. It concerns two Australian men who decide to rob their local bank, and the play's structure alternates between courtroom scenes and flashbacks to the events themselves. The lighting design mainly enhanced these shifts, lighting the court room scenes in a fusty sepia tone created by 500w fresnels in L156 and a gobo wash backlight, and the action scenes set in snowy Colorado in a contrastingly cold blue palette. The narrative moved at a fast pace, and keeping a sense of location was the primary focus of the lighting, and this led to some very nice moments. A dim, dark blue wash created the atmosphere of an alleyway outside a nightclub, whilst a single birdie in open white provided the keylight on actor's faces, as if the light coming from a streetlamp. As this burst into various LEDs and small movers in rainbow colour and step effects, the audience were transported inside the cheesy nightclub. Likewise, a tightly bladed profile created a simple but effective taxi interior look, whilst two bright ETC SourceFour Pars as backlight reflected the lights of a TV studio during an interview scene.
